Andrew Jackson: Changing the Presidency

Andrew Jackson changed the way that the president and the Executive branch is run and thought of. Jackson created the spoils system that is still used today. He created a system that allows the winning party to elect its own members into office. This not only created a larger influence of that political party, but made the presidential position safer. With less a chance of the congress going back on the president’s word. They did this through fear, fear that if they were to go agents their party they would weaken it. This created a safety net around the president that is still up today. Also Jackson stopped the nullification crises. He had not stopped south Carolina from receding from the U.S., it could have started a chain reaction that could have destroyed the country that the founding fathers worked so hard to create.
